Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But His word was in mine
heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.

The Good Samaritan

Luke 10:25-37

This is a famous passage in the Bible when Jesus explained how we should treat one another. Look over the passage and see how you can apply it to your life.

1.) Who came to Jesus and what was his question?
Luke 10:25

2.) If you had a chance to ask Jesus any question, what would it be and why?

3.) To answer the lawyer’s question, Jesus posed another. What was it?
Luke 10:26

4.) What was the man’s answer? Look at the scriptures from the Old Testament for more information.
Luke 10:27; Deuteronomy 6:4-9; Leviticus 19:15-18

5.) After Jesus heard the man, what did Christ say for him to do?
Luke 10:28

6.) Seeing Jesus response, what lesson can we take and apply to our lives?

7.) What did the guy say in response? Why did he say this even with his deep knowledge of the scriptures?
Luke 10:29

8.) Why would a person of his position in the community and church give the response he did to Jesus? Do we sometimes treat God this way? How can protect ourselves from this
mindset?

9.) Jesus explains the answer by telling a famous parable on how to treat our neighbor and who they are. What happens at the beginning of the story?
Luke 10:30-32

10.) The Priest and Levite were key figures in the church at that time. What was Jesus saying about their behavior towards those in need and how can this apply to our current
time?

11.) Who helped the stranger and what did he do?
Luke 10:33-35

12.) The last person in the story was someone on the outside of the church. (Although the Samaritans did have a belief but it was different, also they were treated as outsiders to
the people of Israel) What does this say about their behavior towards those in need and how can this apply to our current time?

13.) What question does Jesus propose after the story and what is the response from the lawyer?
Luke 10:36-37

14.) Jesus gives us a call to be like the Samaritan. How can we fulfill this on a personal (individual) and corporate (church) level?

15.) How would the world change if we took on the character and actions of the Good Samaritan?

Just a Thought

Sometimes the passage itself explains everything. The Lord isn’t expecting more from then you can handle. When the opportunity comes and God is calling you to help, listen. If
you have the means, that person and yourself will be better for it.
