Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But His word was in mine
heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.

Sermon on the Mount
Part 3

Matthew 7
The greatest sermon preached came from Jesus Christ. Matthew recorded this sermon in three chapters when Christ taught his believers the practical ways of living a Spiritual
life. This lesson will cover the first part of this sermon. It ranges from judging one another, false prophets, and a disconnection between Jesus and His followers.
1 ) What command does Jesus give to us all?
Matthew 7:1-2

2 ) What metaphor does Jesus use to describe the behavior that the Lord does not want us to commit?
Matthew 7:3-6

3 ) Why is it hard for us not to judge people? How can judging someone interfere with our ministry or completing God’s will?

4 ) In regards to persistence, what does Jesus say to His followers?
Matthew 7:7-8

5 ) What does Christ have to say when comparing God’s gifts to Man?
Matthew 7:9-12

6 ) How does Jesus describe the path that the righteous will have to take?
Matthew 7:13-14

7 ) Looking at Christ’s words regarding the path, it’s not that easy. What was the Lord preparing His followers then and us now for the road to Heaven and eternity? Can this
thought be in direct opposition to what some of us believe/taught depending on your country, society, or church?

8 ) False prophets are inevitable. What warning does Jesus give regarding them?
Matthew 7:15-20 (for more information check out the Bible Studies – Lesson 9 & 10 – Jude: Beware of False Prophets parts 1&2)

9 ) The next statement is a sobering one from Jesus. What does He say as a warning to all Christians?
Matthew 7:21-23

10 ) We assume because we go to church that we will make it to Heaven. Jesus even talks about the people who believe they are doing great work for Him, and yet Jesus could
say that I never knew you. Look at what Paul has to say regarding love in
1 Corinthians 13:1-3. How can we foster a relationship with Jesus so that that the Lord will not look
upon us and say, “He never knew us”?

11 ) What metaphor does Christ use to compare those who follow His words and others who will not?
Matthew 7:24-27

12 ) After the sermon, how did the people respond?
Matthew 7:28-29

13 ) When studying the sermon as a whole, what is at least one thing you can take and share with someone else?
